Stewart Porter, a resident of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and a beloved son and brother has tragically passed away. According to officials from the National Park Service, a rock climber passed away on Sunday while attempting to scale Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming. According to reports, the climber, Stewart Phillip Porter, who was 21 years old and from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was ascending the second pitch of El Cracko Diablo when he fell.
According to a statement released by the National Park Service, he suffered severe injuries and was pronounced deceased at the site while first responders were providing medical assistance. Authorities from Devils Tower Law Enforcement were notified of the fall at approximately eight o’clock on Sunday evening. They located Porter and his climbing buddy approximately forty minutes after the initial reports were made.
In the event that their climbing partner were stranded at the spot, authorities were able to rescue them with the assistance of the Devils Tower Lodge Climbing Guides and Buck Wild Climbing Guides during the subsequent rescue operation. According to the Devils Tower National Monument, there have been just seven fatalities that have occurred at the national monument since it first opened its doors more than a century ago during the climbing season.
