Kolby Drees of Bondurant, Iowa, and an IT technician for the city of Ankeny has tragically passed away. He was 38 years old at the time of his death. The three fatalities in the crash near Ankeny on Sunday night have been named by the authorities. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle on Northeast 46th Street heading north towards Elkhart ran a stop sign at excessive speed, causing another vehicle travelling east on Enterprise Road to have a T-boned. According to Capt. Ryan Evans of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, there is a stop sign in the area where northbound traffic is supposed to stop early on, but it appears that the northbound vehicle missed it.
Two occupants of the automobile that was struck and one driver of the vehicle that ran the stop sign perished at the scene. The driver heading north was identified as Elkhart resident Chad Allen Dittmer, 16. The driver of the eastbound car was identified as Kolby Joseph Drees, 38, of Bondurant, and the passenger was Sara Elizabeth Tourte, 34, of Altoona. The collision is still being looked into by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. According to preliminary investigations, speed played a role in the collision, according to the sheriff’s office.
