Ben Gillard, a resident of St. John’s Newfoundland, and a writer, poet, singer, musician and painter sadly passed away after a short battle with cancer. He was 77 years old at the time of his death. He was announced dead in a social media statement that read “This post hardest of my life.. It’s with deepening sorrow, agonizing & bone crushing heartache, the announcement of my father Ben Gillard ( age 77 ) has left this world, those shoes will never be filled.”
Who was Ben Gillard?
Ben Gillard was born in 1947 in the Canadian province of Newfoundland’s great northern peninsula in the little town of Englee. He currently works and lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Ben was a painter, writer, poet, singer, and musician. He belonged to associations like the National Art Association (CaRFAC), Provincial Associations (CARNAL), and AANL. The Arts Council of Canada has bestowed upon him honours. There are paintings by him all over the world, including Europe, South America, Australia, Canada, and the Far East.
Fundraising for Ben Gillard funeral
Ben Gillard sister-in-law Lucy Noonan is organizing a fundraiser to raise funds for funeral. The GoFundMe read “We are looking to help Support the Gillard Family and provide Ben with the funeral and burial he so deserves. This man gave so much to the province of Newfoundland, the place he loved and represented well through his work. Funeral costs, as you are aware, can be very costly and thus we are seeking your help in raising a goal of $15, 000. This covers the expenses of the funeral home, transportation, funeral service and burial. If we attain our goal, the remainder of the funds raised will go towards Ben’s headstone.”
